Did we make any significant in-roads into the health effects research of non-ionizing radiation?

Twenty years ago I published a little known review paper titled "Effects of microwave radiation on the eye: the occupational health perspective" (A. Cutz, Lens and Eye Toxicity Research. 01/02/1989; 6(1-2): 379-86).

Today I ask you ... "Did we make any significant in-roads into the health effects research of non-ionizing radiation"?

Back in 1989 after spending about 7-years monitoring information flow on this contentious public health topic, I concluded in frustration that it would take a genius to make a meaningful breakthrough as we continue to gain greater understanding of the non-linear phenomena in physics and biological sciences. One should ponder could "Chaos Theory" apply at the molecular, cellular levels in complex biological systems?

Having an occasional ‘peak’ at the NIR (non-ionizing radiation) discussions these days, it remains obvious to me that we tend to be going in "circles" with our health effects research dollars and continue to reinvent the wheel.  The 17th century Descartes rationalism translated into the “dose and effect” approach in the scientific milieu continues to rule our thinking, as do the lawmakers and lawyers dating their foundations back to 13th century the Magna Carta.

For example listen to the cross examination of the evidence by the U.S. Senator Arlene Specter as presented before the September 14, 2009 U.S Senate Hearing on 'Health Effects of Cell Phone Use'

It must make one think of the "Spanish Inquisition"!

Sincerely,

Andrew Cutz, CIH

    Andrew

It is not just for humans anymore. Every system is subject to a police state mentality, especially healthcare.
